Dobell Drawing Prize #23

31 March - 10 June 2023
NAS Gallery at National Art School
156 Forbes St
Darlinghurst NSW 2010

drawing installation by Anastasia Parmson of a side board and 80s television set

I am thrilled to share some exciting news with you: one of my artworks has been selected as a finalist in the prestigious Dobell Drawing Prize!

The biennial Dobell Drawing Prize is Australia’s leading prize for drawing, celebrating innovation and expanded drawing practices within contemporary art. My drawing installation Untitled (Then we watched Arnold Schwarzenegger movies overdubbed into nasal Russian), retraces my childhood memories of limited access to Western media and entertainment in Soviet-occupied Estonia, and the popularity of Arnold Schwarzenegger action movies that were overdubbed into a strikingly monotonous nasal voice.
This work was also a finalist in the Paul Guest Prize in 2022 and won the People's Choice Award.

The winner of Dobell Drawing Prize #23 will be announced at the opening night on Thursday 30 March from 6-10 pm, with the winner being announced at 6.30 pm. It promises to be a fantastic evening of art and culture, and I would be honored to have you there with me to celebrate this exciting event.

RSVP is essential for this event so CLICK HERE to reserve your (free) spot.

If you're interested in seeing my artwork in person or in joining me at the Dobell Drawing Prize exhibition, please feel free to get in touch. I would love to hear from you!
